Four Apply for Prince George’s County SCM Seat

Four judges have applied for the vacancy on the Supreme Court of Maryland created by the retirement of Justice Michele Hotten:

Honorable Krystal Quinn Alves
Honorable Tiffany Hanna Anderson
Honorable Peter Kevin Killough
Honorable William Antoine Snoddy

Interestingly, no lawyers submitted applications for the position.

Soon, the Appellate Courts Judicial Nominating Commission will interview the applicants, on a date to be determined, and will then transmit a list of nominees to Governor Moore. The appointee will be Governor
Moore’s first to the Supreme Court of Maryland.

Honorable Krystal Quinn Alves

Judge Quinn Alves is a two-time graduate from Howard University. There she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree and her Juris Doctorate from the School of Law. Prior to her service on the bench, she served as an Assistant State’s Attorney and an Associate County Attorney for Prince George’s County. She also gained experience in private practice. After elevating to the Maryland Judiciary, Judge Quinn Alves served on the District Court of Maryland for the 5th District from 2005 to 2011 and is currently serving on the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County. Altogether, Judge Quinn Alves has served the public for almost twenty years as a member of the Maryland Judiciary.

Honorable Tiffany Hanna Anderson

Judge Hanna Anderson received her Juris Doctorate from the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law. Prior to her becoming a member of the bench, she served as an Assistant State’s Attorney and an Associate County Attorney for Prince George’s County. She also gained practical experience in private practice. Judge Hanna Anderson has received awards, such as the Maryland Leadership in Law Award given by The Daily Record, and she has been recognized for a National Association Advancement of Colored People (“NAACP”) Award for their Women’s History Month Program. Judge Hanna Anderson previously served on the District Court of Maryland for Prince George’s County as an Associate Judge from 2008 – 2014, then as an Administrative Judge from 2014 – 2016. In her current position, Judge Hanna Anderson has served on the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County since December 2016.

Honorable Peter Kevin Killough

Judge Killough has served on the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, Maryland since January 2018. He obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Virginia. After law school, he gained practical experience in private practice and at the Maryland Office of Attorney General.

Honorable William Antoine Snoddy

Since December 2016, Judge Snoddy has served on the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, Maryland. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of North Carolina School of Law. Prior to the bench, Judge Snoddy gained experience as an attorney at the Prince George’s County Office of Law, Montgomery County Office of the County Attorney, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission – Office of the General Counsel, Office of the Public Defender for Baltimore City, and the Legal Aid Bureau, Inc. – Child Advocacy Unit. Throughout his career, Judge Snoddy has received awards, such as the Legal Excellence Award from the J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association, Inc. and the County Attorney’s Award from Prince George’s County Office of Law.
