Six applicants (two appellate judges, three trial judges, and one private practitioner) have applied for the Court of Appeals vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera, who reaches mandatory retirement age this September. Applicants must be residents of Montgomery County.

The Appellate Judicial Nominating Commission will meet on August 2, 2021, and forward nominees to Governor Larry Hogan.

The applicants are:

Honorable Anne Korbel Albright of the Circuit Court for Montgomery County
Honorable Sharon Veronica Burrell of the Circuit Court for Montgomery County
Honorable Jeannie Eun-Kyung Cho of the Circuit Court for Montgomery County
Honorable Steven Bennett Gould of the Court of Special Appeals
James Bradford McCullough of Lerch, Early & Brewer, Chtd.
Honorable Terrence Mark Ranko Zic of the Court of Special Appeals

Because Brad McCullough is a member of the Maryland Appellate Blog’s editorial board, he is not participating in the blog’s coverage of this vacancy.
